Cmdr. James V. Welsch, III
Cmdr. James V. Welsch, III, a native of Cambridge, Maryland, is a 2004 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. Cmdr. Welsch earned a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors in quantitative economics. He also earned a Master’s in business administration with honors from the Mason School of Business, College of William and Mary in 2011.
A career surface warfare officer, Cmdr. Welsch’s shipboard assignments include USS Shreveport (LPD 12) as the air division officer, USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) as the training officer, and USS Porter (DDG 78) as the weapons and combat systems officer.
Ashore, he served as the flag aide to the program executive, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense. Most recently, he completed his integrated air and missile defense warfare tactics instructor production tour as the integrated air and missile defense doctrine manager for Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center in San Diego.
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
