History

The USS Anzio (CG 68) is the U.S. Navy's 22nd Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser and the second ship to bear the name. The name Anzio is in honor of the Allied Forces at Anzio and Nettuno, Italy. Her keel was laid down on Aug. 24, 1989, and she was launched on Nov. 2, 1990. Anzio's sponsor, Mrs. Lee Baggett, wife of Adm. Lee Baggett, Jr., USN (Ret.), christened the ship on Nov. 10, 1990. Anzio was commissioned in Norfolk, Virginia, May 2, 1992
