 Command Master Chief David A. Chisholm is a native of Walton-Verona, Kentucky, and enlisted in the United States Navy on July 2, 2003.  He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command and Seaman Apprentice School at Naval Service Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University, an Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration from Kaplan University, and an Undergraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership from American Military University.  He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 213 and CMC/COB Course, Class 23110.

His Fleet assignments include USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) San Diego, California; USS Germantown (LSD 42) San Diego, California; USS Freedom (LCS 1) San Diego, California; PCU Sioux City (LCS 11) Marinette, Wisconsin; USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) San Diego, California; and Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Four, Little Creek, Virginia. His previous assignment was Command Senior Chief of USS Beloit (LCS 29) Mayport, Florida. 

His shore tours include Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois; and Pre-Commissioning Unit LCS Crew 106, San Diego, California.

Chisholm reported as Command Master Chief on board USS Mitscher (DDG 57) in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 15, 2025. 

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various unit and campaign awards. Additionally, he has earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, Small Craft Insignia, and Master Training Specialist designations.
