 Captain Ed Sundberg was commissioned from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.  

His assignments at sea include Foreign Exchange Officer in the Chilean Navy embarked in B.E. ESMERALDA, Fire Control Officer in USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD 980), Navigator in USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), Chief Engineer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57), Chief Engineer in USS COWPENS (CG 63), Executive Officer in USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85), and Commanding Officer in USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85).

Assignments ashore include Naval Postgraduate School earning a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs, Legislative Fellow on the personal staff of Senator Mel Martinez, Flag Aide to Commander, Navy Installations Command, LCDR/CDR Detailer (PERS 411) in Surface Warfare Assignments, Deputy Director for Surface Warfare Assignments/Captain Detailer (PERS-41A), and Chief of Defense Planning at U.S. Mission to NATO.
