CDR Kyle Hickman, a native of Elmer, New Jersey, received his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2005 graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Additionally, he received a Master of Military Studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
At sea, CDR Hickman served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Boarding Officer in USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG-60) and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS HUE CITY (CG-66). As a Department Head, he served as Chief Engineer in USS HALSEY (DDG-97) and Gas Turbine Assessor and Project Officer for Engineering Assessments, Atlantic.
Ashore, CDR Hickman served as Force Protection Plans Officer for Commander, Navy Region Southeast. During this tour, he was assigned as an Individual Augmentee to Kabul, Afghanistan where he served as a Key Leader Engagement Officer. Additionally, he served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Personnel in the Total Force Manpower, Training and Education Requirements Branch (OPNAV N12) and as Assistant Program Manager for the Ship Self-Defense System in Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems 10.
CDR Hickman is currently the Executive Officer of USS DETROIT (LCS 7) Gold.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
