Lt. Cmdr. Greg Piorun, a native of Sedalia, Missouri, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2004 after graduating from Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology. He completed Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois, and Nuclear Field Electronics Technician Apprenticeship School, Nuclear Power School, and Nuclear Prototype in Charleston, South Carolina. After completion of Nuclear Prototype, he was selected for Officer Candidate School and received his commission Jan. 19, 2007.
Piorun’s sea duty assignments include: OI Division Officer aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1), Fire Control Officer aboard USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), and Staff ASW Planner and Plans and Tactics Officer at Destroyer Squadron 22.
Ashore Piorun’s assignments include: Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missile instructor at the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit, Dam Neck Virginia and the initial Combat Systems and C4I Officer (N6) at Commander Naval Surface Group Western Pacific.
Piorun also holds a master's degree in National Security Affairs.
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, as well as various Unit citations.
