Cmdr. James Evans, a naval flight officer, is a native of Annandale, Virginia and a graduate of Auburn University. He received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in 2002. He holds a master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School with a focus in Engineering Systems.
Evans’s first operational assignment was with Patrol Squadron TWO SIX (VP-26) stationed at Brunswick, Maine. CDR Evans completed subsequent tours at Special Projects Patrol Squadron TWO (VPU-2) in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, Development Test Squadron TWO ZERO (VX-20) in Patuxent River, Maryland, and Patrol Squadron FOUR SIX (VP-46) for aviation department head tour in Whidbey Island, Washington. He most recently served on the Joint Staff, J-5 Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy at the Pentagon.
Throughout his career, Evans has accumulated over 3,000 hours in a variety of aircraft, mainly the P-3C. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various other unit, campaign and service awards.
Evans began serving as 63rd Commanding Officer of TACRON 22 on 12 November, 2020.
