 Senior Chief Van Patten is an Army brat and considers Grafenwöhr Germany as home, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Vilseck Middle/High School, Vilseck, Germany and enlisted in the Navy on March 24, 2004. Upon completion of Recruit Training, Great Lakes, IL he attended Operations Specialist “A” School at Dam Neck, Va. Senior Chief Van Patten is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and CMC/COB Course.  He also is a graduate of the University of Charleston with Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership. 

Afloat, after completion of Operations Specialist “A” School he reported to USS Cleveland (LPD 7) in San Diego, CA in December 2004. He served as ALPO and OI01 Workcenter Supervisor. In October 2012, he reported to USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) Pearl Harbor, HI. He served as OI01 LCPO, ship’s CFL and Operations Dept LCPO. In September 2015, he reported to SEAL Team THREE, Coronado, CA.  He served as the Combat Service Support LCPO. In June 2022, he reported to USS Indianapolis (LCS 17) as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of LCS Gold Crew 112.

Ashore, In June 2009 he reported to CNE-CNA-C6F (C6F) in Naples, Italy. He served as Maritime Operations Center LPO. In March 2019, he reported to SOCEUR in Stuttgart, Germany.  He served as SOCEUR JOC SEL, SOJ33 SEL, and Navy Element SEL. In March 2022, he was selected to the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) Program.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1); Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (1); Joint Service Achievement Medal (4); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7); Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal (2); Good Conduct Medal as well as other unit and campaign awards.
