CDR Tom Hoffman is a native of Allentown, PA and 2007 graduate of Drexel University. He earned his commission through the NROTC program. Tom earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College.
Tom is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer. His sea tours include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer onboard USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), Damage Control Assistant onboard USS BULKELEY (DDG 84), and Engineer Officer onboard USS STOUT (DDG 55). Most recently, Tom served in Forward Deployed Naval Forces Europe (FDNF-E) as Materiel and Logistics Officer (N4) and Special Projects Officer (N00Z) to Destroyer Squadron SIX ZERO and Commander, Task Force SIX FIVE, homeported in Rota, Spain. He has deployed multiple times to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and Arabian Gulf in support of Theater Ballistic Missile Defense missions and Operation Inherent Resolve.
Ashore, Tom served as Assistant Officer-in-Charge and staff instructor at the Basic Division Officer Course in Norfolk, VA, where he earned Master Training Specialist qualification and completed the Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I curriculum. Subsequently he served as the Academic Director for Navigation and Shiphandling Directorate (N72) at Surface Warfare Schools Command in Newport, RI.
